Essential Tree Surgery Information

Summer is generally the quietest season in terms of work needed on your trees or shrubs.  They are growing still and producing flowers, but things are calmer than they were in spring.  And the approaching autumn will lead to a slow down, often the leaves start to fall.  But there are still times when you need to care for your trees or even call out the local expert in tree surgery to handle problems.

Tree pruning is about more than just lopping off a few branches and calling it done.  It is the careful removal of strategic branches to reduce the size of the tree without causing it to become unsteady.  It is also about ensuring that dead or damaged branches are removed so the tree as a whole remains healthy.  Any trees that flower in spring are best pruned in summer once they have finished blooming and this includes lilacs, flowering cherry trees and shrubs like magnolias.

Summer is also the time when pests and diseases are at their most rampant so keeping an eye for these things is important.  While some pests can simply be washed off the tree, others require more specialist treatment and your tree surgeon will be able to advise about that.

While the sun is there, summer is also a time of storms, especially high winds.  After any storm, check your trees for any signs of broken branches or storm damage.  If you find any, it is worth having the tree surgeon check it out to make sure branches don’t need to be removed to prevent further damage of destabilisation.
