The crown of a tree

Many of the tree surgery services you will come across will mention the crown of a tree. But what is this?

The crown of the tree is the branches and leaves that protrude from the trunk. In other words, it is the vast canopy that forms the top part of the tree.

There are three services that we offer in relation to the crown of a tree:

Crown Reduction

Trees are fantastic in the garden. As well as soaking up CO² thus balancing our ecosystem, they provide shade. They also work well in areas of the garden that are very wet, as they will dry out the ground.

Squirrels live in them and birds nest in them, and we enjoy the shade they provide and the appeal of the tree too.

But, if the crown of the tree grows too tall and bold, it can become a problem. Sometimes, trees will have growth spurts that make their branches weak etc.

Crown reduction reduces the overall height and width of the tree canopy.

Crown Thinning

Have you noticed after strong winds or storm many branches and other detritus on the ground having fallen from the tree?

If this is the case, the tree may be in need of crown thinning. This is where dead branches are removed, along with weaker branches etc. that make it safe again.

Crown Raising

The tree in your garden may be majestic but if you can’t use the part of the garden because no one can walk underneath it, you are in need of crown raising services.

This means the lower branches are chopped away, leaving space to be able to walk under the tree. As a result, the overall profile of the tree is raised higher.

Tree Removal

As well as crown reduction, thinning and raising, we can also fell trees. This is done using a controlled method, where the tree is felled in pieces rather than hacking away at the bottom of the trunk and hoping it falls in the right direction!
