    Just like any type of surgery, tree surgery around the country comes in lots of different forms.  These different forms and procedures are designed to handle the problems that trees encounter as well as to manage issues with dead or dying trees.

    The good news is that you don’t need to know all of this terminology when you work with MIG Garden Care.  As tree surgeons in Giffnock, we know what your tree needs and can offer our experience and knowledge to advise you on the best course of action.

    But if you like a few ideas of what we do, here are some of the most common procedures and what they involve.  Crown thinning is where the surgeon carefully removes some of the branches so that the tree is strengthened and still retains its overall appearance.  The aim is to remove no more than one-third of branches and sometimes it is only done in some areas, known as formative pruning.  This encourages the tree to grow in specific ways.

    Crown reduction or reshaping is where the tree is out of balance or too large and we reduce its size by removing up to one-third of branches – or parts of them.  The aim is to keep the tree strong and looking good while taking away smaller branches and twigs that the tree can spare to reduce its size.
